Sustainable Development on Sweden agenda

How can we agree to agree? That is the underlying question the Tällberg Forum 2011 asks this summer, in Sigtuna Sweden. In a rapidly changing world, we need new governance mechanisms that fit with the emerging realities. The forum will address the possibility to develop a mutual responsibility for security, growth, energy and environment – through new partnerships. Between 29 June and 3 July, more than 400 people from over 60 countries will meet to discuss how we can find new ways of governance for our evolving world. It is the seventh successive large yearly gathering convened by the Tällberg Foundation. Among this year’s participants are Achim Steiner, head of UNEP, Prof. Dennis J. Snower, head of the Kiel-institute, Yvo de Boer, former Executive Secretary of the UN Convention on Climate Change ,Swedish minister of Finance, Peter Norman, Sweden’s minister of European affairs Birgitta Ohlsson, and Nayan Chanda, Yale Center for the Study of Globalisation. In Almedalen, Gotland the biggest Swedish political gathering event start the 3rd of July and will go on until the 10th of July. In 2010, 1396 events were arranged. An estimated 11.000 people took part. The events including early breakfast meetings, seminars, debates, hearings, speeches, lunch meetings, afternoon seminars, short programmes and networking events before and after the evening speeches. The international issues with connection to Political Governance and Sustainabile Development are more frequently in the program this year. The Baltic Sea issues and Rio+20/Rio+40 will engage some of the public. It will also be a pre-launch of the Hard Rain Project – www.hardrainproject.com the 7th of July. Hard Rain is an international exhibition that takes up all the major global challenges that need to find their solutions. And here is no shortage of solutions. The exhibition will help with both inspiration and good examples. There will be a great contribution to the local work in a global context. The Minister for International Development Cooperation, Gunilla Carlsson and the Mayor of Malmö, Ilmar Reepalu and the Director General of Sida, Charlotte Petri Gornitzka will open the event. The pre-launch event is organised by the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida Partnership Forum) in cooperation with Respect and Öresundshuset The exhibition will be on a tour in the UK and Sweden before it will be launched in Rio de Janeiro in the end of May 2012.
