Ecologic timber decking from OrganoWood

OrganoWood launches an ecologic, Swedish produced timber decking that turns silver gray with age. This summer's terrace project does not longer need to be connected with hazardous chemicals. OrganoWood is now launching an ecologic alternative to pressure-impregnated wood and the company's path from the laboratory to the builder suppliers have been marked with a number of prestigious awards and prices for its environmental innovation. OrganoWood, daughter company to OrganoClick and Kvigos, is now launching OrganoWood®-modified wood that is both protected to rot fungus and has effective flame retardant properties. The wood is a perfect substitute to the ordinary timber decking material which is pressure-impregnated with heavy metals and biocides. OrganoWoods wooden material retains its natural color and will with age turn into a beautiful silver gray color which adds a genuine feeling to the material. In addition, the wooden material does not need to be oiled in order to stay fresh. ”We are extremely proud that we have been able to develop an ecologic alternative to the current rot protected wood”, says Mårten Hellberg, managing director of OrganoWood. ”The wood protection industry would benefit from being more environmentally friendly and this is a leap forward in the right direction”. By mimicking the natural fossilization process, a natural wood protection is created in OrganoWoods process that neither uses biocides or strong chemicals in comparison with most other wood preservation methods. The fibers in the wood are modified with silicon based compounds which creates a physical barrier for rot fungus and adds excellent flame retardant properties to the wood. The product is third party tested by SP – technical research council of Sweden in the rot protection test EN113 and has the highest flame retardant classification for wood (Bfl-s1). For its technologies, OrganoClick has won several prices, among those ”Swedens best environmental innovation 2008”, ”Most promising start-up of the year” in 2008, and been appointed as a ”Climate solver” by WWF 2010 and elected as one of Swedens 20 most innovative companies by the Swedish Institute in 2011. OrganoWood® is now available as ready-to-use modified wood and as a wood preservative. The products are produced by OrganoClick in its production facility in Täby, Stockholm and by the company's industrial partner Bergs Timber Bitus in Nybro that performs the wood modification process.
