IKEA on a sustainable future 20 sept
2011-09-18

IKEA relies on good, long-term relations with suppliers who take social and environmental responsibility. IKEAs focus is to motivate and support suppliers’ continuous efforts to improve. The IKEA code of conduct “IWAY” has played an important role in positive developments.
At this meeting we get the opportunity to learn more about how IKEA work with these issues and their experience from this work.
IKEA has thousands of suppliers and service providers covering the wide range of products and services required for global operations. In turn, most of these have a number of sub-suppliers.
IWAY is the IKEA code of conduct, first introduced in 2000. It specifies the requirements that IKEA place on suppliers of products and services. IKEA focus on building the suppliers’ understanding of what they need to comply with so that they can implement the most suitable measures more independently. In addition to the main document, there are several industry-specific supplements and a special code of conduct for child labour.
The speaker at this meeting will be Greg Priest who recently has taken the position Sustainability Operations Manager where he will oversee implementation of the IKEA sustainability direction and related goals.
Greg holds an MBA in Business Sustainability from The Schulich School of Business at York University in Toronto. In Canada he worked as the IKEA Social and Environmental Manager, focusing on the implementation of the IKEA requirements in its Canadian stores.
After moving to Sweden in 2005 he held the position of IWAY Compliance Manager, responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the IKEA code of conduct throughout the company’s supply chain. Greg is also a member of the executive board for the Global Social Compliance Program.
The meeting takes place the 20th of september at 14.00 - 16.30 in the ÅF-building at Hallenborgs gata 1 A, Malmoe (reception at the second floor). The meeting is free of charge for members in NMC. For others, a fee of 800 swedish crowns will be charged.
