Vancity, Vancouver City Saving Credit Union, from Canada will receive this year’s Globe Sustainability Reporting Award for the best sustainability reporting. The Globe Sustainability Reporting Award is presented for the fifth consecutive year. The aim is to discover and encourage companies and entrepreneurs which are distinguished in sustainable development. The general mission of the Globe Sustainability Awards is to highlight and acknowledge particular cases and initiatives within the sustainability area. Integrated sustainable reports were sent from all over the world. After detailed discussion the jury narrowed the selection to four nominees: Indra from Spain, SCA from Sweden, Teck Resources Ltd and Vancity, both from Canada. Vancity fullfilled the given criteria most completely and was selected as the winner. The Jury's motivation: "Vancity’s report has stood out by meeting much of the Globe Award criteria and the Jury’s requirements. The report tells a clear story and we appreciated the way it was written with the reader in mind. The Jury would like to point out two aspects of the reporting process. Firstly the mix of financial and non-financial information linked together in the scorecard contained within the report and elsewhere, and secondly the "reasonable" assurance given on the report which is so rare. We look forward to the integrated report that Vancity has proposed for future years." With $14.4 billion in assets, more than 414,000 members, and 59 branches Vancity is Canada’s largest credit union. The Accountability Report includes financial, economic, social, and environmental measures and targets. It is structured around our strategic objectives as stated in our Three Year Plan and it allows members to see the complete picture of Vancity and judge for themselves how we are doing on all fronts.
